Overview

At this year’s Summit, local, state and national speakers will discuss the rebirth of Downtown Orlando, development of urban neighborhood centers, the design of great civic spaces, transportation oriented development, the return of rail transit to Orlando and Winter Park, architectural design for urban environments and other topics in a variety of lectures, panels, and lightning talks.  Four exciting tours will showcase both urban and new urban experiences in Orlando and Winter Park.

We will begin the Summit in Downtown Orlando on Thursday, February 19th and conclude at Rollins College in Winter Park on Friday, February 20th, providing attendees the opportunity to ride Sun Rail between venues. More information on the Summit including a detailed agenda will be posted in early January.

MORNING WALK TOUR #1: The Creative City 
  • Tour Orlando’s newest co-working space, Canvs, and catch the vision for the Future Creative Village district with a view from the top of Orlando’s skyline with Brooke Myers of the Creative Village and co-chair of Project DTO.
  • Thursday Morning, 8 am – 9:30 am
  • $20 ($10 for students)

 

MORNING WALK TOUR #2: The Revival of Thornton Park
  • Find out how Thornton Park went from the place to avoid to the premiere address in town. From the revival of Washington Street’s historic business district to the recent construction of a 16 story condo building with a Publix.
  • Thursday Morning, 8 am – 9:30 am
  • $20 ($10 for students)

 

EVENING WALK TOUR: Public Art and Public Space
  • Tour the outdoor public space associated with the new Performing Arts Center with the lead designer, Chad Cowart, and the Orlando’s SEE ART Orlando Public project led by Terry Olson, O.C. Arts & Culture.
  • Thursday Evening, 6:15 pm – 8 pm
  • $20 ($10 for students)

 

FRIDAY BIKE TOUR: Baldwin Park and Winter Park
  • Take a bicycle tour that includes the infill New Urbanism of Hannibal Square, Winter Park’s picturesque lakeside neighborhoods, and Baldwin Park, one of the nation’s premiere, large traditional neighborhood developments. Bicycles provided by Orlando Bike Share.
  • Friday Afternoon, 1 pm – 4:30 pm (The  tour will include a stop for lunch)
  • $30 ($15 for students)

Transportation

Come On and Ride the Train! Come car-free or leave your car at the hotel. Central Florida’s new commuter rail is now available for travel on weekdays between our two venues. Check out the route and schedule at SunRail.com.

Amtrak stops in Winter Park. SunRail is available between Winter Park and Downtown Orlando on weekdays.

For travel between Downtown Orlando and Thornton Park check out the free Lymmo BRT system.
Parking: Our sessions and tours will be in a downtown (Thursday) and college (Friday) environment. If you are driving in please allow time and budget to park. Parking rates start at $5 / day and vary by location. Most downtown hotels charge for parking. Consider downloading the ParkMe app to review public options.

 

Directions from SunRail to Bush Auditorium, Rollins College:

From the train station, walk across Central Park to Park Avenue and turn right.  Turn left onto New England.  Turn right onto Interlachen.  Cross Fairbanks at interlachen.  Bush Auditorium is the first building on the right upon entering into the campus.

 

Directions from the SunTrust Parking Garage:

Park at the SunTrust parking garage on Lyman.  Cross Fairbanks on foot at Interlachen.  Bush Auditorium is the first building on the right upon entering into the campus.

Dine-Around Program

This year, we are happy to offer optional participation in a Dine-Around program for lunch on Thursday, where a reservation will be made for you at one of our pre-selected restaurants. We will place you at a table with 3-5 other CNU members for your meal (separate checks).
